Safety

At Camp Cross, we emphasize fun, learning, and experiences that you will not find anywhere else on the planet. Throughout all of this, we also always emphasize safety. Safety not only for the campers, but for the counselors, staff, and honored guests.

Camp Cross encourages staff members to become certified Life Guards, often with half the staff or more completing training, providing the professional services necessary during waterfront activities, as well as providing the camp with certified CPR First Responders and certified First Aid administrators.

Camp Cross will also employ a registered nurse during each session this summer. Our nurses are familiar with Camp Cross and summer camping experiences and have knowledge in dealing with the uncommon injuries that can occur in the woods, as well as dealing with various allergies and prescription drug administration.

The Camp Cross Staff is further trained in the Camp Emergency Procedures, being assigned specific roles and duties in the case of an emergency. These roles are practiced with Emergency Drills during each camp session, where the campers and counselors also participate having been taught the procedures at the beginning of the session.

Camp Cross also takes steps to protect your children by training all counselors and staff members in the Safeguarding God’s Children Sexual Abuse Prevention Program. This program teaches counselors and staff members how to recognize inappropriate scenarios, and is used as a launching pad for recognizing the necessary steps that we as leaders and mentors must take in order to protect the campers while following the policies set forth by the Episcopal Diocese of Spokane. Included in this is a mandatory background check done on all staff, counselors, and volunteers, who wish to spend time working during a camp session.
