Family Camp: HUGE SUCCESS

Fourth of July Family Camp was a great success this year. We served over 80 people from 20+ families, offering them various activities and programs. From the moment the families reached our shores on Thursday they were immersed into the Camp environment, receiving tours and playing name games, enabling the families to learn more about themselves and their new compatriots. We ended the day with a great campfire, a joint effort between the staff and the families.
Friday we celebrated Independence Day early and often, starting with a Bill of Rights Breakfast and ending with a Constitutional Convention Carnival followed by firework watching. The families were kept busy all day with a variety of activities ranging from swimming (or floating), archery, canoeing, crafts, swing dancing, and much more. We had an old fashioned American BBQ at the Ark for dinner, then proceeded to play our carnival games which included a bean bag toss, face painting, writing your own family constitution, and pinning freedom on Uncle Sam. We then enjoyed campfire and fireworks watching, with one group making the trek up to Winston Rock to enjoy the fireworks from what many consider to be the best view at Camp.
Saturday was another busy day, starting off with a Lewis and Clark Expedition into the wild forest of Camp Cross, Natural Shelter Building at Pioneer, and continued swimming and fishing. In the afternoon the parents were enabled to take a break from the kids for a social hour, which included a trip in the pontoon boat with refreshments. During this time the kids were entertained during Graham’s Fun Hour, which included various games of tag, soccer, and so on. Following dinner, we all came together for an Intergenerational dance that rocked the socks of all in attendance.
Sunday morning the Camp Cross Disc Golf Course held its inaugural Pro-Am before service. For service we were joined by many from St. David’s and treated our full camp of 120+ people to a BBQ, and Rev. Elaine Breckenridge officially christened the Disc golf course. Following lunch, the families checked out of their cabins, then enjoyed a slide show of their past weekend, before departing for home.
We look forward to welcoming them all back again next year, and hopefully your family can join us.
