Even though there were only ten campers, Camp Cross can check off their first session, the combined Intermediate/Junior High I session, as a resounding success.
The Staff and Formation team, made up of the Reverend Margaret and Jan McCall, engaged the small group of campers in a very personal and fun-filled week.
Jan and Margaret chose to tell the stories of Barnabus and Lydia (Disciples found in the book of Acts) throughout the week, focusing on the gifts people are blessed with, what it meant to be an early Christian, and what it means to be a Christian today.
The campers built “churches” out of various materials, and we even sat them down for a traditional early-Christian Eucharist and supper. As for recreation, the kids participated in many activities, including tie-dying shirts, sidewalk chalk, a canoe expedition, meditative hike (the wild flowers are in bloom at this time of year), and plenty of games and sports on Terry field. Near the weeks end we had a cookout dinner, where kids could roast their own hot dogs over the campfire, followed by a movie night and sleepover in the Ark. With such a small group, it was easy for everyone to get to know one another, and create a wonderful, week long community that none of us will soon forget.
